Problem Solving

The primary purpose of this blog is answering the whys of mathematics, not the hows. That said, I understand that someone who’s found this blog may have a perfectly legitimate how question, like “How do I solve this problem for my homework?” While I’m not interested in answering such questions on this blog, there are multiple resources available on the web for developing problem-solving skills.

  1. Khan Academy. A pioneering resource for reviewing mathematical procedures (though not necessarily an in-depth discussion of why the procedures actually work).
  2. Just Math Tutorials. A similar concept to Khan Academy, except using a videocamera instead of screen captures from a computer.
  3. Ask Dr. Math, from the Math Forum at Drexel University. (For teachers, I also recommend their Teacher2Teacher resource.)
